MODIFICATION In my method I had originally planned to take thermometer reading after every 2 minutes but when testing the equipment and took the readings I found out the temperature rose rapidly and was unable to obtain sufficient readings that would produce a graph, so decided to take readings after every 1 minute. To prevent heat loss I had planned to use a layer of wool to wrap around the beaker but decided to add more layers of aluminium bubble wrap to keep heat loss as minimal as possible. THE RESULTS Implementing: When I finished testing the equipments the heater was still hot which would have meant the next experiment would have had unfair testing conditions. To resolve the problem I dipped the heater in cold water for 7 minutes to cool it off and placed on the table for further 3 minutes gain room temperature. During the first experiment, the thermometer that I was using had a scale reading from -5 to 100, which made it very difficult to obtain accurate reading. To minimise error with readings I used the same size thermometer but with a smaller scale reading from -5 to 50, that was much easier to see the temperature. The final condition to change from original plan was that I used a glass lid apart from using a rubber lid to cover the beaker. This was because when rubber lid is used the thermometer could not be viewed without being lifted up but with glass lid, eliminated the need to move around the thermometer to see the temperature. CONCLUSION Resulting from the three experiments, I was able to work out average for the energy used and temperature, which I used to work out the temperature rise. To be able to analyse the results properly and accurately I decided to plot a graph using the average temperature rise against energy used. When I plotted the graph, the out come of the results was a straight line when I drew a linear line of best fit. The out come of my graph agrees with my prediction, which stated that the results should produce a straight line on the graph and it would not go through the origin in the real world. To be able to work our the specific heat capacity I had to draw a gradient on the graph and use the value from it: c = Energy Mass   Temperature Change Using the gradient, we get:This value agrees with my prediction that the value will be between 2000 and 3000 and to be much lower than the specific heat capacity of water. The specific heat capacity that was produced by the gradient, 2353Jkg- K- is only 57 away from the actual specific heat capacity of ethanol, which is 2410Jkg- K- . If both values were to be rounded to two significant figures the values would be exactly the same (2400Jkg- K- ) which shows how close how close the value i worked out is to the real value. The Fact that ethanol is a liquid but has a significantly lower specific heat capacity compared to water this can be explained by the fact that ethanols is more dense than water and its particles are much closer together than those of water which makes it easier for heat to be conducted easily by particles in ethanol. This also explains why the boiling point of ethanol, (78. 3 c) is lower than that of water which is 100 c and this also supports my understanding and prediction that ethanol requires less heat than water. EVALUATION The experiment procedure that I chose for my investigation is reliable able minimised the margins of errors. This is supported by the fact that all my results were all on of very close to the line of best fit on the graph. The fact that when I used error-bars they were all being touched by the line and the R^2 value is 0. 9982 and no anomalous results strongly suggest that the procedure was reliable. The fact that there are no anomalous results and the R2 value is very close to 1 means that the measuring equipments and technique were very accurate and this is supported by the fact that the all observation all produced readings which are very similar to each other which helped to obtain good averages. The fact that I used a joule meter a part from using voltmeter and ammeter then working out the energy myself eliminated any calculation errors. Even though the measuring techniques and equipments helped produce reliable results, there are still errors in the experiment because the line didnt go through the origin and the value that I worked out for the specific heat capacity is a bit less compared to the actual value. The procedure I used produced errors, which affected the whole experiment. The errors that caused by the procedure are that the all the electrical heating was not all used to heat ethanol because some heat had escaped through convection, as the air in the room was cooler. Some energy was used to heat up the heat, heat up the beaker and thermometer. The fact that the lid did not cover the whole top because of the gaps for the heater and thermometer was being converted to the cooler air in the room. The limitation from the experiment that stopped me from obtaining a value that is 100% accurate was the heat loss through convection and these can be improved by using a lid that covers the entire top and the gaps for thermometer and heater dont have any space for air to enter or escape. The fact that some heat energy goes towards heating up the equipments, the equipments should be kept in a temperature that when any electrical energy is given it will all be used to heat up the ethanol and beaker to be wrapped with good insulators so any heat conducted to the beaker will not escape. Doing all these will decrease the amount of heat that is being used in other way than heating the substance. The main sources or errors would be the taking and recording of the readings. I had to observe and record both readings every minute, which meant that some records were few seconds late or early. This explains the reason the experiments producing minor differences when repeated. The way to overcome this problem is to have three people taking single reading and these would increase the accuracy of the results.

My Writing In the past four years, I have written many papers for various classes, enjoying some and others having to choke out words to write down. In this memo I will describe my writing projects and how they made me become a better writer, and how they will continue to help develop me into a becoming a more prosperous writer. What I Really Learned in English 100 Well as a recent pupil of the Great McFadden I want to do all that I can to be on his good side, for he said that if I go one mile to meet him, he will go two miles to meet me, which seems more that fair. As an assignment I am told that I have to write what I learned in English 100 and how that it prepared me for English 200. Well since honesty is the best way of life, in my opinion, then I will be honest about what I learned in English 100. I didn’t learn very much at all in English 100, the teacher I had didn’t teach very well, and because of that, we all were on msn the whole time as he read from a book. Like most English classes we turned in our ruff drafts and they were returned to us with things we had to fix in order to receive a better grade. I also learned how to write a research paper that amounted to twelve pages, and many hours of hard dedicated work. Learning is an on going process, and a process of which one can never really stop learning. I would have to say I have an eagerness to learn. I usually learn fast and remember what it is that I was taught. I think it is very important in today’s society that a person should learn all that they can about how things work and how things are done for their own personal behalf. Having said that, I would also like to say that I like to learn what I am interested in, learning comes more natu... ...opinion on my paper would be a great help to me in making my paper better. I Like to Write About What Interests Me I am the type of writer who loves to write, but only really likes to write about stuff that interests me. I could write you a good story and my thoughts on running cause that is what I do, and it could be really good. The Flat Tax The â€Å"consumption tax† as a replacement for the income tax is at least a subject of noteworthy question and debate. It seems as though, the means in relation to the ends are not always justifiable, but when approached properly, can benefit all. To answer the question of whether a consumption tax should be applied, I examined both my morals and my ideas of capitalism and free enterprise in relation to democracy. Is it fair to establish a tax that rewards the already wealthy and pose a threat to the already shaky financial standing of the poor? No; but a system that rewards success is important. So what is the solution? As an American, I am infused with the spirit of capitalism. While this is a wonderful thing, we must carefully draw the line between the tendency of capitalism towards over individualism and over extended tax burden. The burden to which I refer is of course, largely progressive taxes. With a tax system that is overly progressive (such as the present law system) we risk removing the incentive to invest in America’s companies and also remove money from the pockets of would be employers. As I examine the opposing idea of a regressive tax system, with which I am equally at odds, I find it to be morally repugnant to punish the poor simply for their lower economic standing. With the notion that income tax is going to tend towards the progressive side in the U.S., I feel that repealing such a liability may be beneficial for the Americ...

American Technological Advancements and the Cold War Many of the military technological advancements that have been made in the last 60 years can be attributed to the Cold War. Much of the technology developed during the period of the Cold War is still in use today by the military and government. Advancements in offensive technology are well known to just about everyone in the way of nuclear energy harnessed in the form of the nuclear bomb, but little is known about the battle for information during the Cold War. The Cold War produced some of the most advanced technology used in the fields of detection and reconnaissance in history. The United States’ detection and reconnaissance technology played a major role against communism during the Cold War, and these types of technology still play roles today.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A cold war is an ideological conflict with military standoffs while keeping diplomatic relations open. The Cold War consisted of two sides (or Superpowers); the first was the United States, who believed in and practiced capitalism, the opposing side was the Soviet Union, who believed in and practiced the idea of communism. Many historians dispute the start time of the conflict; however, it began some time after World War II and dragged on until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989. The war developed nuclear missiles and many other technological advancements taking the world into a new era, the Nuclear Era. It was estimated at one time the United States and the Soviet Union could nuke the world seven times over; the governments realized the pointlessness of so many nuclear missiles a nd turned their attention toward other ways to get an upper hand in the conflict. Fear and uncertainty surrounded the Cold War, however thanks to these technological advancements during the Cold War it helped to keep offensive weapons form being fired and destroying the world. Unfortunately on ly a few of these technologies have found there way into the world today. Renting now can make things become a bit easier later. Saving money is what every American wants to do. Buying a home can not only hurt someone financially but it can put them in a bind that can have them paying a bill for the rest of their life. The economy is on a rollercoaster right now so making the decision to buy a home can be a tad bit tricky. Buying a home is not a one time transaction because once you have the home you continue to pay bills such as mortgage fees and cosmetics. Thinking about the money that you may have to come out of is a good enough reason on why you would want to save up money to take care of some of the fees that will occur when making the decision to buy a home. If you own your home, you can claim your property taxes on your tax return. You can also get a tax credit if you make certain renovations to your home to make it more energy efficient – like energy efficient appliances and windows. This one is pretty minor, but assuming you have a fixed rate mortgage, your payment should stay the same. This provides a nice protection against inflation. Renters on the other hand, will watch their monthly payments rise as inflation rises. One of the things my boyfriend and I are most excited about is the ability to customize our house. Apartment living is full of rules and restrictions of what you can and can’t do. I am excited to have the freedom to paint the walls, landscape, and install a new faucet – if I would like. Renting can put some of these things in someone else’s hands to where you can save the money that is extra from your monthly payment. Renters don't have to pay for anything that breaks down in their apt. Homeowners have to pay for repairs themselves. When renting an apartment you will never have to worry about fixing the toilet, sink, or plumbing because all of those things are paid by the landlord. Skipping these fees leaves more money in your piggy bank expanding your options for your home when you come to that decision. Making the decision to rent now and buy later can also give you enough time to wait on the economy to get stronger which can make buying a home a much smoother process. Rent now and buy later is the best technique right now. If you are still on the fence about whether to buy or rent, use the rent ratio. The rent ratio is when you take the purchase price of a house and divide it by the yearly cost of renting a home. According to the New York Times article, â€Å"the number 20 provides a useful rule of thumb. When you do the math, you discover that a ratio above 20 means you should at least consider renting, especially if you may move again in the next five years or so. When the ratio is well below 20, the case for buying becomes a lot stronger. Also, make sure to factor in other costs associated with owning a home such as homeowner association fees, property taxes, homeowners insurance, and maintenance costs. Also, know your personal situation. If you’ve got debt up to your eyeballs or you’ve just gone through a big life change such as marriage, a newborn, divorce, or a death in the family, taking on the responsibility of owning a home might not be in your best interest. I remember several years back I heard something that changed my life forever. Up until that point I had been struggling through life ? doing everything the hard way. I couldn? figure out why my life wasn? going the way I felt it should be. I saw some people going through life effortlessly and seemingly with less tension and frustration while I was wondering if I could ever straighten out the mess my life had turned out to be. I was behind on my dreams, my promises, and my bills. I remember stopping the tape and rewinding it over and over again to hear the 17 words she said. I couldn? believe it was so basic and simple. I was looking for something sophisticated and complicated. I thought I had to attend a $10,000 seminar. I didn? know I could find it on a $10 tape program. I? taking the time to tell you all of this preliminary information because when I tell you the 17 words, I really want you to get it and get it NOW! Because if you get it NOW, your life will never be the same. You will be using the same principle that all who have became wealthy before you have used. Even those who became wealthy and can? tell you how they did use this same principle without even being aware of what they are doing. Yes, the person who had the clear and specific picture of what the outcome was supposed to be was simply operating in accordance to how our brain works. It moves towards the pictures we hold in our mind. It? interesting because once you know exactly what it is you are moving towards, you seem to automatically know the steps to take or the necessary steps will soon become noticeable. Your brain, operating similar to a magnet, will start to attract in your direction the conditions, people, and circumstances that will help you move loser to the mental picture you maintain in your mind and it will repel all of those things that do not correlate to the picture you have in your mind. Therefore, the people who are clear and specific about what they want are using the powers of the Universe to assist them. This is, indeed, an awesome power. A person who knows how and uses this awesome power of the Universe to his or her advantage is a person who is working smart.
